Saiva, una joven que se ha hecho a sí misma desde niña, viaja de lugar en lugar junto a su hija adoptiva, Anja, evitando al resto de los humanos. Cazan animales salvajes para alimentarse y cosen sus propias ropas con las pieles. Por las noches, Saiva cepilla el cabello de Anja a la vez que ésta le frota los pies; juntas se abrazan en una misma cama. Cuando Saiva ve a un hombre, Loki, paralizado en la tundra, ignora todo lo que ella misma había advertido a Anja sobre qué hacer con los extraños (como, por ejemplo, cortarles el cuello). Por contra, le cuida para sanarle. Pero la posibilidad de la presencia masculina de Loki en su acogedora tienda pronto hace que las dos mujeres compitan por su atención y su atracción física, convirtiendo su estancia en un terrible acto de venganza.
